Greetings from Seville!
This is me being impressed by one of the many historical buildings here:
And this is me taking a rest on a bench in one of the many small plazas scattered around all of Seville:
I've been living most of my life in Spain, but this is the first time I've seen something other than Barcelona and the little Mediterranean island I live on. Weird that it took me so long…
Another weird thing is how Seville reminds me of India: lots of colors, very distinct culture, music, and dance, lots of people on the streets, lots of places to eat, and lots of monumental buildings. And I guess the fact that both Seville and large chunks of India have been under Muslim rule is another reason why I see so many similarities. It's definitely something I didn't expect.
As to what I’ve written this week, I’ve got a piece on how to fall in love with writing as well as one comic. I hope you enjoy them :-)
How to Fall in Love with Writing
Writing is an acquired taste
Mushrooms are like hyenas. They look filthy, eat dead things, and can be dangerous. So it only makes sense that I didn’t like them as a kid. It was nature’s way of keeping me safe. After all, if I had been born with a desire to sink my teeth into squishy things that might end up killing me, I’d never pass on my genes. And yet, now I love mushrooms.
You see, lots of things are disagreeable at first and only become pleasurable if you expose yourself to them enough. That’s true of mushrooms, beer, coffee, blue cheese, chili peppers, and — I suppose — hyenas. They are all acquired tastes. Heck, it’s even true of sex. Children instinctively know it’s yucky to eat a meal out of someone else’s mouth and mingle body fluids. And yet, once we get old enough and had our fair share of awkward self-conscious mishaps, it eventually becomes fun. And writing is sort of the same…
Comics I’ve published recently:
